Mayor Atkins Read To Us!!!

We are having an awesome week in school.  We are still learning about the letters Ii and Rr. This morning, we drew ice and rocks in our letter journals.

Yesterday was Josh’s 6th birthday.  His mom brought cupcakes for the class.  Yummy! Happy Birthday, Josh!!

Daily 5 went very well today.  Playing on iStation on the computer was a lot of fun.  We read books and learn about letters, sounds and words on iStation.  We all practicing doing Read to Self during Daily 5 and really worked on building our stamina.  Everyone is getting so smart!  During Working with Words, we worked on our letters, sounds and sight words.  Book Club worked hard with Mrs. Deaton today.  We read some books and played Letter Bingo.

We got to check out more books today in Media. Since everyone brought back their library books from last week, our class earned a star.  We are so proud of ourselves!

Today, teachers and kids all over the country read the same book.... “Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad”.  We are trying to raise awareness of the need for kids all around the world to read good books.  Mayor Atkins came to our classroom and read that book to us today.  Two other  Kindergarten classes came in to hear him read too.  We were so lucky to get read to by the mayor.  He was really nice, cool and handsome.  We loved the way he read the story to us.  He even made us laugh some! We really hope he will come back and read to our class again sometime!

We did really good in Work Centers and Math Centers today. It was all very fun! We worked on the 5 Senses, Letters Ii and Rr, our numbers and much more!  Tomorrow we get to rotate classes and do some fun experiments about our 5 Senses with other Kindergarten teachers.  We are very excited about this.

We played a really fun Senses game with Mrs. Deaton today.  She blindfolded some of us and let us feel a card.  We had to guess what it felt like by using our sense of touch.  The cards were soft, hard, smooth, rough and bumpy.  Then, we wrote in our journals about our sense of touch.

Guess what! We are setting some math goals for ourselves in school this month.  We all want to be able to count to 30 by October 30th.  Some of us already know how to count to 30 so our goal is to count to 50 or 100! If we reach our goal, we get to put a leaf up on the fall tree in our room.  We can’t wait to reach our goals!
