Snowball Fight!!
We had a silly snowball fight in school today! We made snowballs out of paper with sight words on them. Then, we got to throw them at our friends and teachers! We screamed out "Snowball, snowball, snowball fight!" before we threw the snowballs. We found a new snowball and opened it up. Then, Mrs. Deaton made us read the sight words on the snowballs. It was a lot of fun practicing our sight words in a silly way! We want to have a snowball fight like this at home with our families!

Thursday Fun!
We are having a great time in Kindergarten this week. We are learning about the Winter season and the fun things we can do during Winter. School is great but we really wish it would snow outside. We did see some ice on the ground outside. Some people even stepped on it when we were going to iStation. It would be awesome if it would snow!
There are a lot of students absent today. We know that a lot of people are sick. Mrs. Deaton says we need to really keep our hands clean and out of our mouths. We miss everyone who is sick today!!
Before we got started with work this morning, we did a few dance videos on youtube. They were really fun! In math, we practiced our addition problems. We wrote our number sentences on dry erase boards. We also sang some counting songs and counted to 100! We went to math centers and did a lot of fun things. We are doing math activities with snowmen.
During Daily 5, we practiced our reading skills. Jackson's group got to go on the computer and play Snakes and Ladders. They really had a good time. Addison's group read books on the iPads on Raz-Kids. Akshay is excited because he got to Level D.
Lunch was fun and recess was great. We got to go OUTSIDE to the playground for recess. It was cold but so much fun!!
We wrote in our journals about snow and snowmen. Then, we did work centers.

Our favorite thing we did today was check our Twitter account. We tweeted with Mrs. Hamley's class from China and Mrs. William's class from Texas. We have friends all over the world!!

Winter
Because the weather was SO cold, we got to come to school late this morning. We came to school two hours later than normal so we arrived at 10:30. We started our morning by unpacking, making our lunch choice and doing our morning work.
We did not go to Specials or do math this morning. Instead, we got started on Daily 5. We did morning message and sang a fun song called "Vowel Bat". Then, we did two rounds of Daily 5. Some groups did Working with Words and other groups did Computers. If we went to the computers, we played Snakes and Ladders on literactive.com. It was a lot of fun. Some groups went to Writing with Mrs. Feller. The writing group drew pictures in a big sack of what they got for Christmas. Then, we cut a sentence apart and put it back together. The groups that came to Book Club with Mrs. Deaton read books and practiced letters and words. We are getting smarter! The last group went on the iPads. We do Raz-Kids on the iPads. Cool!
After Daily 5, we did Fundations. We made words using our Letter Laptops. Some of the words we made were "play", "the" and "can".
Before lunch, we checked our Twitter account on the Internet. Our friends from China, Mrs. Hamley's class, sent us a message. They wished us a Happy New Year. We found out that Chinese New Year is on January 31st. We are going to send them a special New Years treat on that day. We love talking to our friends in China. Guess what!! Mrs. Hamley's class is sleeping while we are in school. While they are in school, we are sleeping! Isn't that neat?
We took a break and went to lunch. Then, we watched a BrainpopJr. video about hibernating animals. We found out that some animals hibernate in the winter. That means that they sleep all winter long. Mrs. Deaton read us a book called "Animals in Winter". We learned even more about hibernating animals from her book.
Then, we did Work Centers. We worked so hard today!

"I made a penguin. Then, I cut out words to feed the penguin. The words rhyme." Addison
"I drew the animal homes and colored the animals. Then, I cut them out and put them on a sentence strip." Daniel
"I made a mitten with animals in it. It is from the story "The Mitten"" Gigi
"I wrote about what my snowman does at night. My snowman slides down the hill." Christian
The last thing we did was recess. We did not go outside because it is too cold. We went to the gym. We played basketball, jump ropes, hoola hoops and ran around. It was a lot of fun. We love school!!
