Apple Week!

This week we are talking about different kinds of apples.  We have talked about apple trees and the way they look in each of the different seasons.  Tomorrow, we get to taste the three different colors of apples during our snack time.  We are super excited!  We wonder what our favorite apple will be!  Mrs. Deaton told us an awesome story today. It was called "The Little Red House with No Doors and No Windows and a Star Inside".  We were SHOCKED when we found out what that house really was.  Ask us about it tonight!!

In Math this week, we have been learning about shapes. Our Shape Surprise game is so much fun. We did that in math centers. We had to close our eyes and pick a shape from the bag.  After guessing what the shape is, we had to trace and color it on our paper. Also, we have been tracing shapes and singing songs about shapes in math. Do you know which shape has four equal sides with four corners? It is a SQUARE!!! During math centers, we also put apples in order from numbers 0-10.

We finished learning all about our Letterlanders this week.  We have been working hard to hear our letterlander's sounds in words.

During Daily 5 this week, we are doing some different things. We get to do Book Club with Mrs. Deaton.  She reads a book with us and practices our letter sounds.  Also, we get to play on iStation on the computer and Raz-Kids on the iPads.  We LOVE playing on the computers and iPads in the classroom!  We are still doing Read to Self during Daily 5.  Our stamina is awesome because we can read the entire time without getting distracted.  The last thing we do during Daily 5 is Working with Words tubs. We get to do punch pin letters, matching letters on an apple tree, letter dice toss, sight word dice toss and lots more!  Daily 5 is a very busy time of our day!

In journals we have been writing about apples.  We know how to write "I like my apple".  Mrs. Deaton and Mrs. Feller think we are the smartest Kindergarteners ever!!

In work centers, we are making stainglass apples and leaves.  We are also practicing our pattern block shapes by making a scarecrow.  We are working hard on our art project, which is decorating an apple tree for each of the different seasons in the year.  Another thing we have been doing in work centers is sorting pictures by sounds. Mrs. Deaton really wants us to color the pictures nicely before gluing them on our paper. Work Centers are fun this week!!

The only bad thing about our week has been the weather.  We have not been able to go to the playground to play.  We can't wait to go back outside with our friends. Go away rain!!

Good Choices/Poor Choices

We have been talking about how to make good choices in Kindergarten.  We know that making poor choices is not a good idea.  Our class really wants to try our best to make really great choices every single day.  We want to work hard to learn and play together.  Our teachers are helping us learn about how to behave in school.  Mrs. Deaton let us sort good and bad choices on the pocket chart.  Then, we got to act them out! We really had fun acting out the different things.  When we acted out the poor choices, we just pretended.  We do not like to be mean and make bad choices in school.  Watching everyone act out the pictures was really silly and funny.  It was a fun activity!

These are some of the good choices we learned about:

Good Choices

Pay Attention

 Listening Ears

 Sit Criss-Cross

 Quiet Voice

 Do Your Work!

 Sit Nicely

 Walking Feet

 Help Others

 Raise Your Hand

 Gentle Hands

These are some of the poor choices we learned about:

Poor Choices

 Fighting

 Yelling

 Lying down during carpet time
