Our First Week Together!

This has been a SUPER first week in Kindergarten with our entire class.  We are learning a lot and having an awesome time.  School is so much fun and super cool!

When we get into the classroom in the morning, the first thing we do is unpack our backpack and make our lunch choice on the Smartboard. Then we get started on our morning work.  When the bell rings, we say the pledge.  Our principal, Dr. Marsh, says the pledge with us.  Then we do Deskercise on the SmartBoard.  Deskercise is when we exercise and get our bodies ready to learn.  It's really funny!

After that, we come to the rug and get ready for math. First we do Calendar with each other. We get to sing some fun songs, dance on the carpet and learn about our seasons, months, and days.

Math is also when we learn about numbers and counting. Mrs. Deaton let us sing a silly chicken song about numbers.  We get to bock like a chicken and count to 10. It's super silly! We got to play with unifix cubes in math too.  We build towers with different numbers of cubes or we get to make patterns.

We have been practicing writing our numbers on dry erase boards.  Mrs. Deaton is teaching us some really silly poems to help us write our numbers.  Here is the poem for the number 5.... Short neck, tummy fat, Mr. 5 wears a hat.  Haha.  We think it's silly to say that poem!!

After math we go to Specials and then come back for snack.  We loved our graham crackers and juice this morning.  It was delicious!! When snack is over, we go to a magical place called Letterland. We are learning all about our letters and the Letterlanders that hide behind them.  Bouncy Ben is really cool because he has tall ears and is really cute.  We also know about Annie Apple, Clever Cat, Dippy Duck, Eddy Elephant and Firefighter Fred.

We are working really hard during Daily 5 also!  Every day we practice reading to ourselves and we are building our stamina.  Stamina is how long we can do something without getting distracted. GUESS WHAT!! We read for 4 minutes today.  We are getting so smart and are going to learn how to read great in Kindergarten.  Mrs. Deaton and Mrs. Feller are so proud of our reading!

When Daily 5 is over, we write in our journals.  Mrs. Deaton read us a story about things we like about ourselves.  Then, we wrote about things we like about ourselves in our journals.  We like our hair, glasses, shoes, eyes and our whole body.  It was fun to write about things we like.

Lunch is awesome in school.  We get to eat yummy food from home or from the cafeteria.  After lunch we go outside to the playground.  This is our favorite part of the day.  It's fun to go down the slides, go down the firefighter pole and play on the structure.  We love our new friends that we get to play with outside.

When we come inside from playing, we do Work Centers. This week we are doing a lot of fun centers about our name.  We are making a Chica Chica Boom Boom tree with our name on it.  We are decorating the letter that starts our name.  We are decorating our entire name with stickers.  We are also playing with play dough.  Work Centers are so much fun!!

We think Kindergarten is the best thing.  Also, we know we have the BEST Kindergarten class in the school.  We know we are going to be a great Kindergarten family.  Kindergarten ROCKS!!
