Thanksgiving Feast!

The cutest Native Americans and Pilgrims ever seen at South Elementary School were in our classroom today! We enjoyed a wonderful feast with our friends in our classroom during lunchtime. We set up our classroom to look like the very first Thanksgiving and then got to dress up like Pilgrims and Native Americans. It was so much fun. Most of us ate food from the cafeteria and loved it. Some of us tried new foods for the first time. Mrs. Deaton was so proud of us for trying new things. Our class feast was awesome!!

Turkeys and more!!

We have had a wonderful first week of November in school!

In Letterland, our class has worked hard to learn about Sammy Snake at the beginning and end of words.  We know that if we are talking about more than one object, we add Sammy Snake to the end of the word!  We have practiced writing the letter Ss on dry erase boards and made a circle map with lots of words that begin with Ss.

In Math, we sorted different objects into groups by size, color, shape and type.  Mrs. Deaton sorted all of the students into different groups and we had to guess her rule.  That was really fun!  We also got to take our shoes off and sort them into different groups!

Kids with Jackets AND Kids with Short Sleeves

Tie Shoes AND Velcro Shoes
Black Colored Shoes AND Non-Black Colored Shoes

Boy Shoes AND Girl Shoes

In Math Club with Mrs. Deaton this week, we practiced with More, Less and Equal.  We got to play a very fun math game... Kids VS Mrs. Deaton!  It helped us with understanding More, Less and Equal and it was a ton of fun!!

In Math Centers, we practiced our teen numbers by putting turkey feathers in order on a turkey body. We also practiced our numbers 1-10 by matching a turkey numbered body to the correct number of turkey feathers.  The last center was making a turkey with pattern blocks. We are really working hard to learn our shapes and numbers better!

Daily 5 is still a huge part of our day in Kindergarten!  We work hard during each of our Daily 5 Rotations and are getting smarter every day.  Mrs. Deaton says that she is so proud of our hard work with our letters, sight words and reading skills.  We are using our rollercoaster skills to tap out all the sounds in the words and blend them together. In Working with Words, we made a cool sight word turkey. Mrs. Feller has been working hard with us on our writing skills in her group.  We have to make up a sentence with a sight word and write the sentence the best we can.

Kindergarten Rocks!
