Farm Day!!!

Today was Farm Day. Farm Day was absolutely super!

First off, today was already special because it is Paulina’s birthday!! On the SMART board, Paulina blew her candles out as well as she got 6 birthday spankings with one to grow on! How funny! We also got to eat cupcakes and sing “Happy Birthday” to celebrate.

When we went out for Farm Day the first animal we saw was a sheep! We thought the sheep was so cute. We also saw a chubby gray bunny. We thought that bunny was so soft. The white and brown cow  we saw was a cute little baby cow! We saw a goat with a beard under its chin! That was so funny!

“My favorite animal at Farm Day were the baby ducks!” Dylan
“My favorite animal was the chicken because chickens are cool.” Cam’Ron
“I liked the baby bunny because it was just so soft.” Wesley
“The pony was my favorite animal because it is so cool to watch ponies run around.” Myonna

During Farm Day we learned so many things. We learned that some animals feel different, that baby calves drink milk from their mothers, and even that cows don’t have their own bathroom! That was SO hilarious! After we looked at the animals we ate lunch outside with our friends.

Next, Levi’s dad, Mr. Bankirer, came in to carve a pumpkin with us. First, Levi’s dad cut the stem off of the pumpkin. Next, we took turns scooping all of the guts out of the pumpkin! We thought that was so gross and slimy! Together we decided to make the pumpkin’s eyes in the shape of a triangle. Then we decided to cut a circle with nostrils for the pumpkin’s nose. Also, we decided to make a scary mouth on the pumpkin. Lastly Levi’s dad connected ears to the side of our pumpkin. We love our pumpkin, it is so scary! Our pumpkin’s name is JACKIE!!

After all the fun we had making our pumpkin, we made homemade butter with Mrs. Brooks. We put heavy whipping cream and a marble in a container and took turns shaking it. Eventually, we had butter! We spread the butter on some yummy biscuits that Mrs. Brooks made! The buttered biscuits were so delicious! What a fun day it was....

Congratulations Mrs. Deaton!

Congratulations Mrs. Deaton! Your baby is SO cute and we can't wait to meet him!

We had a cool Tuesday! This morning after we unpacked, we traced some triangles. Then we did our morning message. The secret code on the morning message was "jack-o-lantern"! A jack-o-lantern is a pumpkin with a face carved out.

Next, we did Daily Five Round 1. Levi’s group did book club with Mrs. Brooks first. They read the book I Have a Pal. Wesley thought that book was super! In Read to Self, Cam’Ron read a book about a sleepy doggy. He liked that book! Then, we did Daily Five Round 2! Jatzibe learned about the letter Aa on iStation. Paulina’s group did Working With Words. They practiced writing different words. She thought it was fun.

Next in Fundations, we practiced our letter Dd on dry erase boards. Ethan likes writing on dry erase boards!

For snack we had Fruit Loops. Fruit Loops are SO delicious! After snack we went to MUSIC for out specials. In Music, we sung a few songs. Joshua is a good singer and loved to sing songs in Music today. It was just awesome!

After Music we had recess. Instead of going to the playground, we played an exciting game with Mrs. Feller! It was really fun and made us tired.

Following recess, we worked on our work centers. William’s group made the Little Old Lady that Swallowed a Fly. He colored pictures of the animals in the story. Then he cut them out and put them in the old lady’s tummy! Gracie’s group made a cute spider hat. The legs of the spider had different pictures and letters on them. Cam’Ron’s group did the Harvesting Numbers center. They colored the pictures and counted how many pictures there were in each block.

Next we did out first quarter writing samples! We did our VERY best writing.
“I wrote about Mrs. Deaton having a baby.” Myonna
“I wrote about a firetruck going to a firehouse.” Cam’Ron
“I wrote about a farm.” Jazmin
“I wrote about water.” Dylan
“I wrote about my brothers!” Alex

Then we played a REALLY exciting math game on the SMART Board with Mrs. Brooks. Mrs. Brooks called out a number and whoever swatted the number with a fly swatter first got a point for their team! That was SO exciting. “I beat Mrs. Brooks in the math game today!!!!” Selena

Lastly, we did math centers. The red group played Top it. Top it is Gracie’s favorite math game. The green group had math club. They played Around the World. Jatzibe liked that game a lot! The Blue group worked on iXL. Hanna had to count things and type the number of objects. The Orange group rolled a dice and colored in the apple with the corresponding number.

Today was the best! We miss you Mrs. Deaton and we are working so hard. It is a blast with Mrs. Brooks!

A Terrific Thursday!

We have had a TERRIFIC Thursday!!

Even though we miss Mrs. Deaton and can't wait to see her new baby, we are having fun and learning lots of things with Mrs. Brooks!

Today in Daily 5, some of us were detectives! We used "magnifying glasses" and searched for words around our room starting with the letters Dd and Ss. At the computers, we got on iStation to practice reading and to practice our letter sounds. In Book Club with Mrs. Brooks, we practiced our letter sounds and letter recognition with flash cards. During Read to Self, we enjoyed reading around the room with our Book Boxes!

Next, we worked on our centers! Some children made ducks to go on our farm on the outside wall of our classroom. Other children made a flower with Ss words on the petals. Some children did an activity with pigs in the mud. Other children cut, pasted, and sorted letter Dd and Ss words. Also, some children made a barn with Ss and Dd words inside. Centers are so exciting!

"I liked making my duck because it was easy but also fun." Wesley
"I thought the pigs in the mud looked really cute and funny!!" Nick
"I liked learning new Ss words and putting them on a flower." Aaron
"I thought it was fun to make my own barn." Levi
"I like sorting and I got to sort Ss and Dd words." Josh

After lunch, we watched a really cool Bookflix called "Click, Clack, Moo." It was a hilarious story! We also liked writing about farms and farm animals in our journals this afternoon.

At the very end of the day, we had a SPECIAL surprise! Mrs. Deaton came to see us!! We were all so excited and happy. She promised to come back and bring the baby. We can't wait!
