Apple Tasting!!

We are having a very good week in school.  Yesterday, we got to taste three different kinds of apples for snack... Red Delicious, Golden Delicious and Granny Smith.  After we tasted the apples, we graphed our favorite kind.  Most of our class liked the Red Delicious apples but they were all very good.  The apple activity was fun, delicious and yummy!

Both rounds of Daily 5 went very well today!  We worked really hard to build our stamina and get smarter during Read to Self.  Working with Words was good, too.  Selena put her friend’s names in order using letter cubes.  Ariana sorted capital and lowercase letters.  William matched capital and lowercase letters on his apple tree.  Joshua rolled the letter dice and wrote his letters.  Some other people got to punch letters using push pins.  In Book Club, we played a lot of letter games with Mrs. Deaton.  Some of us got to do activities on our Letter Laptops and others got to play Letter Sound Bingo with her.  It was so much fun. We are really learning a lot during Daily 5!

We went to the Book Fair during Media today and some of us got to buy books.  We love the Book Fair!

Mrs. Deaton read the story “10 Apples Up on Top” and then drew a funny picture with 4 apples on top of her head.  We got to write about anything we wanted to in our journal today.  Some of us decided to draw a picture and write about apples on top of our heads. We thought this was really silly!

We played a very fun game called “Guess My Rule” during math with Mrs. Deaton and Ms. Mary.  They sorted all of the children in lots of different ways and we had to guess how they sorted us.  They sorted us by boys and girls, the color of our hair, what kind of shoes we were wearing, short and long sleeve shirts, the length of our hair and the color of our shirts.  The teachers thought they could trick us but we didn’t think they could!  They actually did trick us.... only ONE time, though!  It was a really awesome game.

We did a lot of other math things during Math Centers.  Some of us worked on IXL math on the computer.  Another group got to roll the dice and practice writing our numbers.  Ms. Mary had a group of students who got to play Color and Shape Bingo with her.  The last group worked hard sorting different objects by color and type.  We are learning a lot in math.

We really love school!

Apples Apples Apples!!

Today was a sunny, fun day in school.  We are learning all about apples and the letters a and c. We got to play in Free Centers yesterday, which was awesome!

This morning we drew a carrot and an ax in our letter journals.  During Daily 5 we got to read, play iStation on the computer, go to Working with Words and go to Book Club with Mrs. Deaton.  We did two rounds of Daily 5 and really worked hard on building our stamina.

We went to music class today.  We played a game where we passed a carrot behind our backs around our circle while the music was playing.  When the music stopped, the person who had the carrot had to hide it behind their back.  The person in the middle of the circle had to guess who had the carrot in their hand.  We laughed a lot and had so much fun! Recess was a lot of fun today because we got to go to the playground.  We played on the fireman’s pole and slid down it.  We also played on the slides, ran in the grass and played on the structure.

Work centers are fun this week.  We are learning about what an apple tree looks like in all four seasons.  We also put pattern blocks on an alligator, made a torn paper apple, sorted a and c pictures by their sounds and put apples on our trees by numbers.

Mrs. Deaton told us a really awesome story called “The Little Red House with No Doors and No Windows and a Star Inside”.  Guess what!!! That little red house is AN APPLE!!! We were all so surprised. We can’t wait until tomorrow because we get to taste different kinds of apples. Yummy!!

We got to do a lot of fun things on the Smartboard during math.  We sorted apples by color, shape and size.

In math rotations, some of us got to play Shape and Color Bingo with Mrs. Deaton.  One group worked on IXL math on the computer.  One group rolled the dice and wrote down the numbers.  The last group sorted a lot of different toys, buttons and shells.  They sorted by shape, color, type and size.

My favorite part of today was...

“doing math.” Levi
“playing iStation on the computer.” Wes
“punching holes in my letters with a push pin.” Aaron
“making a torn paper apple”
“when Levi bought our class a book from the book fair.” Mrs. Deaton :)
“when we got 3 popcorn scoops from Mrs. Feller for being so good.” Cecilia
“when I rolled the dice and wrote the numbers in math.” Kamila
“playing color and shape bingo.” Cam’Ron
“playing IXL on the computer.” Abby

Letters m/n week!!

We have had a fun week in school. We’ve talked about Fall and everything that happens during the fall season. Tomorrow is the first real day of Fall!

This morning, we read If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and If You Give a Moose a Muffin and compared both stories. We made a double bubble map that shows how the stories are alike and different.

During Fundations, we got to explore with our cool letter laptops. We worked with the letters M and N and got to put our letters in order on the laptops.

For specials we went to Computer class. Mrs. Wilkenson taught us how to use the laptop computers.  We are all going to have a laptop to use during Computer class.  We can’t wait.

We had fun doing work centers this week. We sorted M and N pictures by sound, made a moose or a mouse, put pattern block shapes on a funny scarecrow and put scarecrows in order from 1-10.  We also made fall trees and talked about what happens in the fall. Today we got to make stain glass leaves and apples. They are going to look really good in our windows.

Yesterday, we got to sort M&Ms by color and graph how many of each color we had.  The best part was when we got to EAT the M&Ms when we were finished with our graph! Yummy!!

Our favorite part of today (and this week) was when we got to have Free Center Friday.  We played in Housekeeping, Computers, Puzzles and Games, Math and Blocks this afternoon.  It was so much fun!!

“I played on pbskids on the computer. It was awesome.” Kamila
“We pretended we were a family in Housekeeping.  I was the grandmother and it was my pretend birthday.” Abby
“In blocks, we made a cool tower.” Cam’Ron
“I had fun doing the United States puzzle.” Dylan
“I liked playing with the unifix cubes in the math center.” Nick
“I liked playing on pbskids today.” Levi

What a cool week in Kindergarten!
