First Week Together!!

We are having a wonderful week together in Kindergarten with all of our new classmates.  We have met many new friends and love Mrs. Deaton's and Mrs. Feller's Kindergarten class. We are very busy and do a lot of things during the day.

When we get to school in the morning, we unpack our backpacks and make our lunch choice on the SmartBoard.  Then, we sit down in our chair.  We get to color a picture and play with some toys in the middle of our table.  After the bell rings, we gather at the carpet.  We sing songs and talk about our calendar.  Mrs. Deaton is teaching us about our seasons, months of the year and days of the week.

After circle time, we do Daily 5.  We are learning how to read for a long time without getting distracted.  This is called building our stamina.  Stamina is how long we can do something without getting distracted.  Guess what!  We read for 2 and a half minutes today.  Mrs. Deaton is so proud of us.  We are going to keep reading until we get to 20 minutes!  That's a long time!

We get to go to Specials after Daily 5.  We had Art on Tuesday and today we had Music.  Specials are fun.  After Specials we get to go outside to play for recess.  The playground is so much fun because we get to play with our friends.  Today, we had to play inside because it was raining outside.

After recess, we travel to a magical world called Letterland.  That's where all the letters live.  We learned about Annie Apple, Bouncy Ben, Clever Cat and Dippy Duck.

After Letterland, we go to lunch in the cafeteria.  We get to eat yummy lunch together. When we get back in the classroom after lunch, we do Work Centers and Math.  In Work Centers, we get to build our name with fish and write it.  We get to put stickers on our name.  We get to put our name in order on a Chica Chica Boom Boom tree.  In Mrs. Deaton's group, we get to use our iPads.  She is teaching us how to use them and she showed us about Seesaw.  Our moms and dads are going to love to see our work on Seesaw!

In Math, we are learning about numbers.  We have been singing some fun math songs on our SmartBoard! We talked about the numbers 0 and 1 today.  We learned that 0 can be good and 0 can be bad.  "Your mommy says you will get 0 bee stings today" (Cheyenne) is when 0 is good.  "0 is bad when you get 0 pieces of candy" (Scarlett).  In Mrs. Feller's math group, we are putting counters in cupcake liners and practicing counting.  In Mrs. Deaton's group, we are building numbers 0 and 1. We also get to play with unifix cubes and pattern blocks.

The last thing we do is write in our journals.  We drew a picture of ourselves today and wrote our name. Writing is very hard and some of us got frustrated.  However, we know we are getting smarter every day and will be able to write really well one day!
