Terrific Tuesday!

We are having a terrific Tuesday and a wonderful beginning to our week in Kindergarten.  This week, we are talking about Apples.  We are doing a lot of fun activities with apples.

"We built an apple with pattern blocks and then counted how many of each block we had". Iker

 "We made apple hats by putting number apples in order from 0-10." Chamberlyn

"We made stain-glass apples for our classroom windows." Cheyenne

"We read a book about apples in Book Club." Bransen

We talked about the way an apple tree looks during all four seasons. "We did an apple tree." Reese

"We colored an apple tree and glued apples on our tree." Bowen

"We made a paper plate apple." Zhaine

"We colored in our journals about apples." Gavin

Daily 5 is going awesome.  We are working hard in Book Club, iStation and Read to Self.  Guess What! We added something new to Daily 5 this week. We are doing Working with Words.  We are building words and practicing our letters during Working with Words.  It is so fun.

In math this week, we are talking about 2D shapes.  A 2D shape is a flat shape.  The shapes we are talking about are circle, triangle, square, rectangle, rhombus, oval and hexagon.  We have been singing songs about our shapes and we have been drawing our shapes.  We know a lot about our shapes!

We are also talking about our numbers 6 and 7 in math.  We are building our 6 and 7 numbers with Mrs. Feller during Math Centers.

Here are some other fun things we have to share about our week so far:

"The book fair is this week.  We went to the book fair to buy some books.  I bought a Pete the Cat book for our class." Shayla

"We had picture day yesterday.  We took pictures in the cafeteria." Gwen

"We learned about a meteorologist in Calendar time.  A meteorologist is scientist who studies the weather." Bransen

"We get to go outside on our playground." Austin

So far, this week is going great!  We love Kindergarten!!

Another Fun Week!!

We are having a great week in Kindergarten.  In the morning when we come in, we unpack our folder and make our lunch choice on the SmartBoard. Then we get to play with our friends.  Some of us play in our blocks center and some of us choose to do a puzzle. When the bell rings, we have to clean everything up and do our morning work at our table.

Mrs. Deaton calls us all to the carpet for Morning Circle time.  We sing songs and talk about our seasons, months and days of the week. Then, we start Daily 5.  We are working hard to build our stamina and read without getting distracted.  Guess what!  We read for 20 minutes today!! Mrs. Deaton was so proud of us that she did a cartwheel on our carpet.  It was hilarious.

After Daily 5 we go to Specials.  Today, we had PE in our classroom.  We got to play the cups game and practice building things with cups.  So fun!!

When we come back from Specials and Recess, we travel to Letterland.  We are still learning all of the Letterlanders who live in this magical world. Then, we start Work Centers.  This week we are talking about Families.  We are making a family poster in Work Centers.  We also are making a shape school bus and a shape train.  We also get to play play dough with our play dough books.

After Work Centers, we go to lunch. When we come back from lunch we do math. In math, we are learning about numbers.  We have been working with ten frames and numbers 0-10. Yesterday, we used counters to build numbers on ten frames. Today, we all had number cards at our table.  Mrs. Deaton showed us a ten frame and we had to find the number card that matched it.  We are smart kids because we know our numbers.  In Math Centers, we exploring with geoboards.  We also work with Mrs. Deaton and Mrs. Feller on our numbers.  We are practicing writing and recognizing our numbers 0-10.

The last thing we do after Math is Journals.  We are coloring pictures of our family.  Then, we write about them.  We have learned two new words that we are writing in our journals.  The words are MY and TO.
