Pumpkin Carving and More!!

Today was an awesome day!  We got to carve a pumpkin with Sophie's daddy.  We all gathered around the table where Sophie's daddy had the pumpkin.  He cut the hat off and then showed us the inside of the pumpkin.  We all said "ewwww" because it looked so slimy inside the pumpkin.  We scooped out the inside and then drew a face.  The eyes were triangles.  The nose was an upside down triangle.  The mouth had a few teeth.  While Mr. Tyska finished cutting the face out, Sophie's mommy separated the seeds from the yucky stuff.

We put them into different piles of 10 seeds.  We put the seeds on little paper plates.  Then, we gathered on the rug to estimate how many seeds were in our pumpkin.  Estimate means to guess.  Mrs. Deaton wrote down our guesses on a big piece of paper.  Then, together, we counted our seeds.  Guess what everyone!! There were 300 seeds in our pumpkin! We all screamed with excitement and shock.  That's a LOT of seeds.  Iker was the lucky one because he guessed the right number of seeds.  Go Iker!

Tomorrow, Mrs. Deaton is going to bring a pumpkin light.  We get to see what our pumpkin looks like in dark.  It's going to be so cool!  Thank you so much to Sophie's mommy and daddy for carving our pumpkin with us!

Today was also a special day because it is Tenley's 6th birthday.  Her mommy, grandmother, aunt and great aunt came in to school today.  They brought us some yummy cookies to eat.  We sang to Tenley and she got to be our line leader.

We also wanted to share what we are doing during math this week. We are talking about sorting in math.  During math centers, we get to sort a lot of cool things.  We are sorting by color.  Mrs. Deaton and Mrs. Feller think we are the smartest kids in the school! Mrs. Deaton is starting our tests for 1st quarter.  We are showing her just how smart we are!

At South Elementary School, we know we are AWESOME!  Kindergarten is AWESOME!!
