A Great Week!!

We have a wonderful week in Kindergarten! We have been learning the routines, how to practice self-control and how to make good choices. We have learned what it means to be a good friend and how to respect everyone around us.

Every morning, we come in and immediately unpack our backpacks.  We are super responsible because we know how to put our folders in the basket without being told by Mrs. Deaton.  We know where to put our lunch boxes and our water bottles. After we unpack, we begin our morning work until Mrs. Deaton plays the special song on our SmartBoard. Then, we put everything away and gather at the rug.  We sing a quick good morning song before heading to Specials for the day.

When we return from Specials, we gather at the rug for Morning Meeting.  This is a very fun part of our day because we get to sing songs, greet one another, talk about our rules, say our class pledge, go over our calendar, share cool things with our friends and do fun group activities.

After Morning Meeting, we have a quick snack. We eat, chat and get to dance to some GoNoodles on the SmartBoard.  We also talk learn about our sight words with songs and dancing!

After snack, we dive into our Literacy Block.  This week, we have worked hard to build our reading stamina.  We have been working hard to read without getting distracted or without stopping reading.  We finally made it to 20 minutes!  Mrs. Deaton is so proud... she even did a cartwheel for us!!

During Literacy, we also read different fiction or nonfiction books.  This week, we read stories about what to do when friends fight.  We learned how to handle conflict and how to compromise with our friends and family. We wrote many different things in our journals about our friends and how we get along well with others.

When Literacy is over, we go to lunch and recess.  We love this part of our day!!

After recess, we have Math.  This week, we talked about all our 2D shapes. We learned what a circle, square, triangle, rectangle and hexagon look like and a lot of characteristics of them.  Ask us how many sides and corners each of these flat, 2D shapes have!  We are so smart! During Math Centers, we got to build shapes on geoboards, play on the OSMO with tangrams, create a shape mouse with Ms. Reynolds and practice drawing 2D shapes with Mrs. Deaton. Math is so fun!!

We worked hard to make a cute bear out of circles this week!  We love our bears!

After Math, we travel to the imaginary land of Letterland to learn about different Letterlander characters.  We love to fly, drive, skip or ride a train to Letterland to learn about our letters. This week, we learned about Harry Hatman, Munching Mike and Talking Tess.  We can't wait to learn about the rest of the characters this year!

After Letterland, we pack up our backpacks and prepare for dismissal.  We sing fun songs and tell our friends goodbye before leaving for the bus or car riders.

We are really loving school so far.  We get along with our new friends, work hard to earn lots of Dojo points and make good choices all day long.  Kindergarten is AWESOME!
