Our First Week Together!

We have had an awesome first week in Kindergarten with all of our new friends.  We are learning a lot about the rules and are having a lot of fun together!

When we get into the classroom in the morning, the first thing we do is unpack our backpack and put our Monkey Binders in a big box.  Mrs. Feller checks our binders for things from our parents.  Then, we get to make our lunch choice on the Smartboard.  After we do that, we get started on our morning work.

Then, we come to the rug for Calendar on the Smartboard.  We get to sing fun songs, dance on the carpet and learn about our days, months and seasons.

After Calendar, we line up to go to Specials.  This week in Specials, we practiced our fire drill and tornado drill and got to know our teachers a little better. We are going to have a lot of fun in Specials this year.

When we get back from Specials, we eat snack. We loved our cookies we had in snack today. They were delicious! We celebrated a few birthdays this week! Holden's and Olivia's birthdays are on September 3rd.  Jason's birthday is September 2nd. We sang to them and ate yummy donuts!

After snack, we do Work Centers. This week we are doing a lot of fun centers about our name.  We are making a Chica Chica Boom Boom tree with our name on it.  We are sorting capital and lowercase letters that are in our name.  We also get to decorate our names with stickers. Another center we are doing about our name is putting our letters in order on fish and practice writing our name. We are also playing with play doh.  Work Centers are so much fun!

After Work Centers are over, we get to go outside for recess. This is so much fun because we get to play with our friends outside.  We have been learning all the new rules of the playground.  Here are some rules we know... No running on the mulch.  Run only in the grass.  No monkey bars.  Go up the ladders and down the slides, one at a time.  Recess is one of our favorite parts of the day!

When we come inside, the first thing we do is get some water!  We are always so thirsty after playing outside in the hot weather!!  Then, we gather on the rug and do Daily 5.  We learned all about our Bell Signal and what to do when Mrs. Deaton rings the bell.  We have to walk quietly to the carpet and sit criss-cross applesauce and sit straight-o, great-o!  We have been learning how to Read to Self this week in Daily 5.  We are reading so hard and trying not to get distracted!  We are building our stamina.  Stamina means how long we can do something without getting distracted and without quitting.  GUESS WHAT!! Today, we read for 4 minutes in Daily 5!!! Mrs. Deaton and Mrs. Feller are so proud of us!

After Daily 5, we go to a magical place called Letterland. We have gone on a train to Letterland.  We have swam to Letterland.  We also got to fly to Letterland.  We are learning all about our letters and the Letterlanders that hide behind them.  Annie Apple and Clever Cat are both so cute.  We also learned about Bouncy Ben and Dippy Duck!

After Letterland, we get to go to lunch.  Lunch is awesome because we get to eat delicious food from the cafeteria or from home.

When we get back to the classroom after lunch, it is time to do Journal Writing.  Mrs. Deaton reads us a story and draws a picture in front of us.  Then, she writes words and sentences.  Yesterday, Mrs. Deaton wrote about her friend, Mrs. Feller.  Then, we got to write about a special friend we have in our own journals!  Mrs. Deaton says we are going to keep these journals all year long in Kindergarten!

After Journal Writing it is time for Math.  We all LOVE math!  It's one of our favorite things to do in school. We have been practicing our numbers in Math this week.  We get to sing some cool songs on the Smartboard to help us with our counting. In Math centers, we have practiced building unifix cube towers with different numbers of cubes. We have also practiced writing numbers and coloring the right number of boxes for each number. We even get to work in partners during math centers.  Math is so awesome!

Mrs. Deaton and Mrs. Feller let us play in Free Centers some this week, too.  We love to play in Housekeeping, blocks, puzzles and games.  Free Centers are the best!

Kindergarten is so much fun! We have the best class and already love each other so much!  This is going to be such a wonderful year!
