September Fun!

School has been very busy lately! We are all working so very hard and growing smarter every day!

Last week, in Math, we learned all about 2D shapes.  We sang about our shapes, practiced drawing our shapes and even built shapes with our bodies.  We learned the number of sides, corners and angles that a circle, triangle, square, rectangle and hexagon have.  Ask us what the differences are in a square and a rectangle!

We were over-the-moon excited to have the chance to use our iPads for the first time in school!  We got to play ABC Ninja and 123 Ninja for a little while and it was awesome!  On these games, the iPad says a number or letter and then we have to swipe it with a ninja swipe. It is so fun! We are so happy that we get to use our iPads this year in school!

Playing on the playground is still one of our very favorite things to do in Kindergarten. We are learning to play well with each other and make new friends along the way.

This week we are talking about Fall and Apples.  A lot of activities we are doing have to do with apples. We have made a torn paper apple, a stain glass apple, put apples in order by number, glued shapes on an apple and glued apples on a tree.  In our journals, we have drawn and written about red, green and yellow apples! We are very excited about the other apple activities Mrs. Deaton has planned for us this week!

This week in math, we are working with our numbers 0-5.  We have learned some fun poems to help us remember how to write the numbers correctly.  Our poem for number 5 is our favorite... "Short neck; tummy fat. Mr. 5 wears a hat."  We are practicing counting objects, writing numbers and matching the number of objects to the numeral.  We have also been singing a very fun counting song this week... the Chicken Counting Song.  We get to sing, count and act like silly chickens!

During Daily 5, we reached our goal of 20 minutes in Read to Self!  We are building our stamina and can stay focused on our books without getting distracted for 20 minutes!  How exciting!  Mrs. Deaton promised us that she would do a cartwheel if we reached our goal.  We were SO happy when she did the cartwheel for our class! Go Mrs. Deaton!

We are learning so much in Kindergarten!
School is definitely a blast!
