We started our week out with a brand new schedule. We don't go to Specials as early as we used to anymore! After we unpack and do our morning work, we do Math. This is different than before. In math this week, we have been decomposing shapes. We are making shapes out of other shapes. We can make a hexagon with six triangles or with three parallelograms. Also, in math, we have been putting Christmas trees in order from shortest to tallest or tallest to shortest. We have also been putting ornaments in order by number from 10 to 20. Math is so awesome!
After Math, we go to Specials and then we go outside for Recess. We didn't get to go outside today because it was wet out there. Instead, we got to play in free centers for indoor recess. That was super cool! After recess, we have snack and then it's time for Daily 5. There are 6 brand new Working with Words tubs in Daily 5. We get to walk around the room with a clip board and write words that we see. We have to sound out the words. In another tub, we build sight words with magnetic letters on the iPad cart. Then we write the words. In Book Club, we are reading lots of hard books. Mrs. Deaton lets us read with a partner sometimes! Daily 5 is awesome!
After Daily 5, we do Letterland. Today, we built a lot of words on our awesome letter laptops. A few of the words we built were sled, net and pig. After Letterland we go to lunch. In the afternoon, we listen to a story and write in our journals. Today, we read the story "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bell". Then, we wrote about a bell with sparkle words. We are learning to write details in our journals! The last thing we do before we go home is Work Centers. This week, we are doing work centers about Christmas. Our favorite Center is making Santa with our name on the lights. We love Work Centers.
Yesterday was Maddie G.'s birthday. She is 6 years old. Her mom brought us cupcakes to eat at lunch. They were delicious! Happy Birthday, Maddie!! Yesterday, we also go to go see the Tarradiddle Players. They are a Musical Theatre group who act out different stories and books. We watched them sing and perform to the story "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". We laughed so much because they were so funny!
We all love Kindergarten!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving from a wonderful bunch of Pilgrims and Native Americans!
We have had a wonderful week so far in Kindergarten learning all about the First Thanksgiving. We have learned about the Pilgrims who traveled from England to America on the Mayflower. We have learned about the Native American Indians who helped teach the Pilgrims how to plant corn, hunt and fish. The best part of our week was when we got to dress up like the Pilgrims and Indians during our Thanksgiving Feast! We ate delicious turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, green beans and apple sauce. Cake was our dessert as we celebrated our Thanksgiving meal together. Mrs. Deaton and Mrs. Feller think we are the cutest Pilgrims and Indians around!
We have also been doing a lot of things with turkeys this week in school. We made a sight word turkey, sorted pictures by sounds on turkey feathers and ordered turkeys by number. During math, we have been talking about numbers that are more, less or equal. We know that the alligator likes to eat the bigger number when we are comparing numbers! We also have been practicing groups of numbers in math. We played a fun game called "Mingle". Mrs. Deaton lets us walk around the room saying "mingle" until she calls out a number. We have to quickly get in groups with the number of students that Mrs. Deaton called out. It is so fun to get in groups with our friends and see if there are any left overs. Guess what? With this game, we have been doing multiplying! It's so cool!
South Elementary School's Chick-fil-a night was on Tuesday night! 8 people from our class went to eat there that night. We tied with Mrs. Loden's class as the class with the MOST people who ate at Chick-fil-a. We are sharing the cow this month with Mrs. Loden's class.
Thank you so much to Mrs. Dishno for sending in some delicious cookies that look like pumpkin pie! We all loved how they looked and tasted!!! Yummy!! You can find Mrs. Dishno's cookie business (The Sweet Elements) on Facebook. Check out her awesome cookies she makes!
