Thanksgiving Feast

We have had such a great day in Kindergarten.  We got to have our feast today during lunch.  We dressed up like Pilgrims and Native Americans.  The pilgrims were from England and they came over to America on a ship called the Mayflower.  The Native Americans taught the pilgrims how to grow crops in America. We pretended we were the pilgrims and Native Americans today so we could celebrate the first Thanksgiving.  It was a lot of fun dressing up and eating our meal together. Tomorrow, we all get to dress up like Native Americans.  Then, we get to take our costumes home with us.

Mrs. Deaton let us pick out our own Native American names.  We chose something that reminded us of ourselves.  Here are our names:

Adair- Little Dear
Adam- Eagle Feather
Akshay- Star Fish
Addison- Water Lily
Adriyana- Running Water
Ali- Morning Star
Arianna- Sun Princess
Caroline- Little Blue Bell
Christian- Tall Pine
Daniel- Chief Rising Sun
Gigi- Snow Princess
Ivan- White Rabbit
Jace- Black Hawk
Jackson- Brave Hunter
Jarett- Thunder Hawk
Kevin- Blue Fish
Lily- Tiger Lily
Logan- Red Arrow
Mahala- Yellow Butterfly
Malakhi- Red Bird
Nikolas- Thunder Bird
Ritesh- Red Fox

Mrs. Feller has been out this week for surgery.  We miss her so much!! We made get well cards for her and Mrs. Deaton took them to her house yesterday.  She really liked them!

Mrs. Deaton let us Skype with Mrs. Feller today before lunch.  It was awesome to see her on the SmartBoard and talk to her!  We hope she can come back to school very soon.

Thrilling Thursday!!

What a wonderful day we have had in Kindergarten!  We are working so hard and getting smarter every day.  We all love school and are having a blast!

When we got to school this morning, we made our lunch choice and started our morning work.  After morning work, we did Calendar on the carpet with Mrs. Deaton.  During Calendar, we talk about our seasons, days and months.  We also talk about how many days we have been in school.  Today was our 49th day in Kindergarten. After Calendar, we do work centers.  One work center was sorting Ee and Uu pictures. Another work center is making an owl.  We have to trace our owl pieces before cutting them out.  Another work center is making a jam jar and writing -am words. We are also making placemats in work centers.  We are going to use our placemats for our Thanksgiving Feast.  We draw and write things we are thankful for on our placemats. Our last work center is an elephant pattern block.

When work centers are over, we always go to Specials. Today, we went to iStation where we had to take our test.  We all did a very good job! After iStation and snack time, we start Daily 5. Some groups got to do Raz-Kids on the iPads. We also Read to Self in our book boxes.  Mrs. Feller has a Daily 5 group now.  She gets to work with a group on writing.  It is a lot of fun to go to Mrs. Feller's group.  Mrs. Deaton's book club group is really awesome too.  We are reading books in her group.  When we went to the computer for Daily 5, we did Literactive.  There are some fun games on Literactive.

After Daily 5 we went to lunch and recess.  It felt wonderful outside today.  It was windy, though.  We are thankful that it was sunny.  We came back in from recess and did journal writing.  Guess what!  Mrs. Deaton let us have  FREE WRITE today!!  We got to write about anything we wanted.

"I wrote about January." Caroline
"I wrote about a rat." Akshay
"I wrote about people." Kevin
"I wrote about Caroline and me." Addison
"I wrote about snow." Lily
"I wrote about my house." Jarett

When journal writing was over, we did math.  We sang a really fun song on the computer about Teen Numbers.  We are learning all about teen numbers this week.  We know that all teens numbers start with a 1, even 11 and 12!  Ask me to sing the song to you tonight!

Math centers went really well today.  We played on IXL, played Top-It with a friend and worked with 10 frames.  We are smart!!

Dr. Marsh said something really awesome this afternoon!  She told us that our test scores came back from last year.  SOUTH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL got the HIGHEST scores of all the elementary schools in the district.  We are SO proud of our school.  Mrs. Deaton cheered and screamed loudly when Dr. Marsh said this announcement.  Actually, everyone on our hall started to scream and clap.  It was really funny.
